After the announcement of the death of the famous bluesman, JOHN LEE HOOKER, on June 21, 2001, we learn the short story(piece of news) of the death of the composer, Cuban arranger CHICO O' FARRILL, died at the age of 79 years, on June 27, 2001, as well as the death of the saxophonist American tenor JOE HENDERSON, on July 1-st, 2001, at the age of 64 years.

CHICO O' FARRIL, born in Havana, on October 28, 1921, learns to play the trumpet to the military academy, and discovers the jazz by listening to the American big band... Then, it(he) studies the composition, while steering several groups, before going to New York in 1948, when it(he) composes for Benny Goodman, Stan Kenton, Machito... Until 1995, it(he) registers(records) no album under its(his) name, before registering(recording) Pure Emotion, which puts back(hands) him(it) on the front of the scene... It(he) participates in the film Calle 54 realized by Fernando Trueba.

JOE HENDERSON, been born in 1937 in Lima, begins to play the saxophone tenor from the age of 9 years, then studies in Wayne State in Detroit. It(he) stays a little while in France, during its(his) military service, and meeting notably, the pianist Bud Powell and the drummer Kenny Clarke. On returning to New York, it(he) collaborates with the trumpeter Kenny Dorham, and is signed by Blue Note. Later, it(he) registers(records) for Milestone and Eloquence. It(he) collaborated and registered(recorded) with numerous musicians, such as Lee Morgan, Horace Silver, Wynton Kelly, Herbie hancock... Outstanding saxophonist, it(he) knows a late success with the public... It(he) fought for some time against a lung emphyseme, and died from a heart attack...
